The saying to be “Beautiful as a ripe cloudberry” is one of the nicest compliments a person can get in the Sámi language. It tells a lot about the feelings attached to this berry. The cloudberry has a status of its own. It was connected to sale and cash income, which was scarce in the times of selfsubsistence before and after WWII.
